Privacy Policy

Heritage Explorer is operated by Waypoint Heritage. The app is built around a simple principle: your personal Heritage Explorer data — your Journey, passport, photos, voice memories and saved places — stays on your device.

What we collect (all optional, all stored locally on your device)

• Location — with your permission, the app uses your location to show nearby heritage locations. Location is used on-device and is not uploaded to, or retained on, our servers.
• Photos — with your permission, you can add photos to your Journey. These are stored locally on your device.
• Voice memories — with your permission, you can record short voice memos in your Journey. Audio is recorded only after you tap record, is stored locally, and can be deleted at any time.
• Your Journey, passport, badges, saved places and preferences — stored locally on your device.

What we do not collect

• We do not run analytics or tracking.
• We do not collect or store your email address or account details (the sign-in screen in this version is a placeholder; no account server is used).
• We do not sell or share your personal data, and we do not upload your personal Heritage Explorer content (such as your Journey, passport, photos and voice memories) to our servers.

Third-Party Map and Location Services

Heritage Explorer uses third-party mapping and geocoding services to provide map, location and place-search features.

• On iOS, map functionality may use Apple Maps (MapKit).
• On Android, map functionality may use Google Maps.
• Some map and route-preview features use OpenStreetMap data through Leaflet.
• When you search for an address or place, the search query may be sent to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim geocoding service so that it can be converted into geographic coordinates.

These third-party services may receive technical information necessary to provide the requested service, such as the search query, approximate network information or device/network request information. Their handling of this information is governed by their respective privacy policies.

Waypoint Heritage does not use these map requests for advertising or behavioural tracking.

App updates

The app may check for updates from Waypoint Heritage's own server (portal.waypointheritage.com).

Deleting your data

You can delete Journey entries and voice memos within the app. Clearing the app's data or uninstalling the app removes everything stored on the device.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13.

We may update this policy; changes will be posted on this page.
